Painted colour bands

Casa Aurea sets out to hold summer indoors. Mustard, terracotta, olive and a thin line of sea-green run across the walls as painted bands — drawn, taped and hand-finished by Svay’s own painters rather than bought in as panelling, wallpaper or cladding.

It is a deliberately cost-effective device. A few litres of paint does the work of a feature wall: the bands set rhythm behind each headboard, frame the shelving in the living room and pull the eye up through the entry, all without adding material, carpentry or weight to the budget.

Against them, everything else stays soft and woven — cane headboards and sideboards, jute and linen blinds with scalloped edges, terrazzo underfoot, and small notes of pink, denim blue and brass. The result reads as warmth and daylight rather than as restraint.
